College essay Final

College Essay Prompt #1
The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

Failure in many things can be taken as learning experiences. My mom was the very person that helped me realize this. In the kitchen she can be a formidable foe. She would have been able to cook up things from the top of her mind with only the ingredients she had. Being such a good chef you'd think that she wouldn't know much about failure in the kitchen. But good chefs learn from their mistakes and are able to better them later on. Chefs are able to obtain this trait and make their dishes better, tastier, and more savory. My mom obtained this trait and taught me to have it as well. A trait that would help me in my time of need.

It was a regular night. I was starting to prepare the ingredients for the food that we were gonna eat. With every ingredient being I had a feeling of uneasiness that something was going to happen, but I couldn't put my mind to it. The feeling was crawling on my skin. My mom had come into the kitchen and she told me "Can you cook the food I have to do something." and I replied "Yeah of course!" when I was younger I was the type of person that loves the recognition that I get from people. So I was excited for the opportunity to be able to cook for my family. The excitement for cooking my family burnt away for what I was about to do.

The smell of it. The sight of it. The feelings I felt. I had burnt the food that I was responsible to watch and it was made into an unsightly and embarrassing scene.  My sister had come down the stairs to investigate the smell and what she saw and smelt amused her. She laughed at me and ridiculed me for my misfortune. I was so embarrassed. But my mom came to the rescue and saw the wreck I had made.  She then told me that the burnt food was a mistake that could be easily be made a right because you can learn from this and make yourself stronger. It made me feel somewhat better.

The next time I cooked for my family I had made the best chicken I have ever cooked. The smell of it. The smell of the chicken made you want to savory the smell than eating it. The sight of it. The golden skin that can be compared to the amazing sight of the morning sun. The feelings I felt. The face of a proud person and the smile of one as well. The next time I had cooked for my family I had made the best chicken I have ever cooked. My sister stood in awe at the smell and how the chicken looked. She had congratulated and apologized for my previous mistake. I had become a stronger cook because of this, it made me more confident as a person.

This experience had helped me grow as a person. This failure turned out to be a success in  learning to deal with problems by smiling and listening to my mom's advice. Though this was a bad situation my mom had made into a good one. My look on  bad situation had changed entirely. If I had not burnt the chicken I would have get my recognition and be very proud. But I would not have not learned from this mistake. A failure turned learning experience.
