1. Critical Stance:
The first decree made by the Germans, Jews are not able to leave their homes for three days. The Jews did not think of anything at the time because they thought the Russians dominant hand would protect them and then even doubt that Hitler wanted to do anything to the Jews. But, tension grew when the German cars rolled through their town. Thus, they felt miserable because the monsters that were known as Jew killers we in the town. Although the Germans were in town they felt no threat coming from them because the Germans showed that they were likable and nice people.
There after the Germans continued to tighten their grip around the Jew with another decree, A curfew was set into place for the jews. This was a good measure set by the Germans because it was for the Jews safety, somewhat.
To add onto the grip the jews were separated by their own religious symbol, a yellow star. This to them represented the Jewish culture and how strongly they believed in it.
Soon the Germans would input another decree as soon the Jews got used to the previous decree, the valuables of all Jew would be taken, for example, gold, money, etc. Although this took away many things, the Jews were smarter and buried their most valuable belongings.
The final decree that was in place was, the town was separated in to ghettos. It was still the town they knew but with extra blockage that the germans had set. But, the houses they spent their lives in would be taken away, given to other people, and the previous owners would have to move somewhere else. This happened to most of the Jewish families in the town.
2. Dialectical Journals:
"Well, there you are, you see! What did we tell you? You wouldn't believe us. There they are your Germans! What do you think of them? Where is their famous German cruelty?"
Little did the Jews know that the Germans had played them. The Germans did no show their true face to deceive the Jews into thinking, "Hey these guys aren't that bad." But, they soon revealed their true intentions and snatched the Jews.
"I warned you"
This line was said by Moshe the beadle after he has seen the horrors of what the Germans were capable of. He had said to leave the town but did they listen? No. The Jews ignored his pleas and just waited and kept being ignorant. This goes to show you that all of the happenings in the book could have been prevented if they listened.
"Don't worry. If you are in any danger, I'll warn you." If he could have spoken to us that evening, we could have perhaps have fled.."
This line was a mix of dialogue said by Elie's father's friend and Elie. This is another situation in which the whole Wiesel family could have gotten away with their lives and family intact. But, still the situation could have been avoided.
"Oh God, Lord of the universe, take pity on us in Thy great mercy..."
This line made me a little sad because I knew that there was a lot more in store for the Jews. They prayed to their God but to no avail, the nightmare for them was just starting. The mercy they sought for would be crushed and replaced by their evil captors intentions to make them suffer.
"In front of us flames. In the air that smell of burning flesh...We had arrived at Birkenau, reception center for Auschwitz.
The Jews had confronted the Angel of Death and for some their final resting place. This place can be seen as just a regular compound but, with all that had happened it could be seen as "Hell on Earth". The actions of the cruel people and the inhumane actions can never be forgotten and sets the tone for the rest of the book.

Inhumanity Chunky Paragraph
Genocide, the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation. From the topic that we could've chosen we chose the story of Auschwitz. What we read and seen were gruesome, unforgivable, and held many crimes against humanity. Auschwitz was held at Krakow, Poland. Hitler had deemed Auschwitz a perfect location for a death camp.
"For one thing, it was situated near the center of all German-occupied countries on the European continent. For another, it was in close proximity to the string of rail lines used to transport detainees to the network of Nazi camps."( History.com Staff). This lead to smaller networks of nazi death camps with the same name up to Auschwitz III. In the years of its operation it took about 1.1 to 1.5 million lives.
Auschwitz had many people who were deemed as unfit for living, immediately took "shower" when entering the camp. "Showers" were disguised as gas chambers by the Nazis to kill everyone they deemed as unfit for living. This was "including young children, the elderly, pregnant women and the infirm, were immediately ordered to take showers." There was more atrocities committed at Auschwitz such as medical experimentation for example to understand eye color he would inject a serum in children eyes causing excruciating pain. "He also injected chloroform into the hearts of twins, to determine if both siblings would die at the same time and in the same manner." These actions happened at all of the Auschwitz camps for 5 years (1940-1945). Overall the actions that the Nazis committed at Auschwitz and other concentration camps are crimes against humanity. And will leave a deep scar on the world that may never heal.
