Genocide, the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation. From the topic that we could've chosen we chose the story of Auschwitz. What we read and seen were gruesome, unforgivable, and held many crimes against humanity. Auschwitz was held at Krakow, Poland. Hitler had deemed Auschwitz a perfect location for a death camp.
"For one thing, it was situated near the center of all German-occupied countries on the European continent. For another, it was in close proximity to the string of rail lines used to transport detainees to the network of Nazi camps."( History.com Staff). This lead to smaller networks of nazi death camps with the same name up to Auschwitz III. In the years of its operation it took about 1.1 to 1.5 million lives.
Auschwitz had many people who were deemed as unfit for living, immediately took "shower" when entering the camp. "Showers" were disguised as gas chambers by the Nazis to kill everyone they deemed as unfit for living. This was "including young children, the elderly, pregnant women and the infirm, were immediately ordered to take showers." There was more atrocities committed at Auschwitz such as medical experimentation for example to understand eye color he would inject a serum in children eyes causing excruciating pain. "He also injected chloroform into the hearts of twins, to determine if both siblings would die at the same time and in the same manner." These actions happened at all of the Auschwitz camps for 5 years (1940-1945). Overall the actions that the Nazis committed at Auschwitz and other concentration camps are crimes against humanity. And will leave a deep scar on the world that may never heal.
